Neue Schriftblätter [. . .] (Max Körner)

$350.00

Although we’ve shortened the title above, Google translates the full title to New typefaces for writing lessons and practical application in advertising art and typeface painting. That’s probably close enough for describing this portfolio of twenty-two alphabets on seventeen loose sheets. Seventeen of those alphabets are reproduced in this later book by Max Körner. So that means that much of what we wrote for that book applies here, namely This [thing] is fucking awesome; Like, a real breath-taker-awayer; and A total stunner. Now some some advice: Get this. Open a bookstore and gallery. In the gallery, put all the shows inside flat files. Put these loose prints in the drawers for a little exhibition. Sit back and watch the people come. Done.

Super rare. WorldCat lists only three libraries in the US with possession of this title: NYPL, Newberry, and National Gallery of Art Library. Nine libraries in Germany have it. And that’s it.

  • Author: Max Körner
  • Size: 11.5 × 7.625 inches
  • Pages: 18 loose sheets
  • Binding: Portfolio
  • Condition: The paper portfolio is very fragile and worn. The sheets are largely clean but there are definitely bumps and creases here and there. Most are fine, though and none of it is distracting. (Although the bit about the portfolio being fragile is a real issue.)
  • Publisher: Verlag Karl Ulrich & Co., n.d. WorldCat lists three editions in 1934, ’36, and ’37. This copy has no date, but the intro by Karl Ulrich (as translated from the German by our phone) suggests 1934.
