Flex (George Salter)
Designed by George Salter and released by Amsterdam, this specimen is the ultimate Flex flex. (The slang term flex means to show off or boast about something, often in a way that’s intended to impress others.) Introduced in the December 1936 issue of PM, a note explains that Salter conceived the idea for the face when working on an ad for glassware and “wanted the effect of luminosity and transparency characteristic of glass.” Incidentally, Salter was buried in Cummington, Massachusetts. We have a rubbing of his stone made by the same guys who made these lithos. Come see.
