Die Neue Typographie (Tschichold, 1987)

$80.00

Copies of the first printing of Tschichold’s seminal book in its original binding will generally run you about $1,000—if you can find one. Thank goodness for this 1987 facsimile. The publishers did a very good job—and it comes with a nice explanatory booklet which no doubt sings the praises of J.T. and the impact of this book. (It’s in German, so we can’t be sure.) Published the year before the first American book about modern typography and the same year as the first edition of Layout in Advertising by Dwiggins, this is the one that started it all. R.IP., dear J.T.
