The let us regard as the Aider of Art . . . (Charles R. Capon)
When one works on books about slabs, stencils, shadows, and scripts, one needs a lot of examples around. Like, when Louise Fili was working on Scripts, she picked up this item from the Printing Exposition and Craftsmen Number of The American Printer. It’s pretty as a picture—and it was illustrated and lettered by Charles R. Capon. We first learned of him when we got this beautiful map he made. And we’re sitting next to a book about his bookplates that we’ve yet to deal with. Anyway, Louise Fili must’ve recognized this as special, too, because she snatched this for herself. It’s from her collection. And soon it will be from yours. And, also, this is the very item reproduced on page 298 of Scripts. Historic!
