This one by Otl Aicher is as informative as it is handsome. (Or would it be better to say that it is as handsome as it is informative?) Loaded with detailed and illuminating illustrations that highlight the principles that make type readable and dynamic—regardless of the means of production. Prepared during the transition to digital design and typesetting, this is still a useful tool even if almost forty years old. (This reporter is fifty-one and still a useful tool.)
